TypeIt4Me 5.3.2 maintenance update is in the Mac App Store now. 18/02/2013 No Comments

Good news, everyone: we’re pleased to announce that TypeIt4Me 5.3.2 is now available to download at the Mac App Store. Before you get too excited though, please note that it’s a maintenance update only. As much as we’d love to go crazy and add a bunch of cool new stuff to TypeIt4Me’s repertoire of text expanding tricks, this would unfortunately fall foul of Apple’s new rules governing Mac App Store updates. We’re strictly prohibited from tacking new functionality onto non-sandboxed apps in the store, and as sandboxing TypeIt4Me would seriously impair its usefulness this release focuses on fixing bugs instead. Those of you who were really holding out hope for a new built-in shortcut that automatically writes your term papers for you, we’re sorry to have to disappoint you there.

Now that we’ve managed your expectations we can move swiftly on to detail the more joyous tidings that this release otherwise brings with it. After a busy few months tinkering under the hood, we’ve given TypeIt4Me a tune-up to ensure that it runs more smoothly. A number of outstanding glitches and performance issues that some of you reported have been addressed. Specifically, for this spit and polish update we’ve:

  • Corrected the “missing file” message where you should instead see “do not expand” or “expand using…” in the Applications tab of Preferences.
  • Added the missing US flag when selecting AutoCorrect with US locale (the Union Jack was already there for British locale users).
  • Fixed cursor positioning in snippets including date/time.
  • Fixed a bug that cropped up when saving changes with a filter on.
  • Fixed an issue where adding a snippet to a set in iCloud would cause the focus to be lost or jump to the wrong snippet.
  • Fixed an issue encountered when trying to insert a clipping within another clipping via the insert menu at the bottom right. Previously, nothing was available to insert – the “clipping” menu was empty.
  • Fixed converting a plain text, tab delimited file to TypeIt4Me format.
  • Fixed an issue related to the snippets file not being in its correct location (Sets folder inside TypeIt4Me’s Application Support folder).

Once again, many thanks to those of you who helped us to identify these issues so that we could remedy them. And while we’re at it, kudos to Apple for honouring its pledge to allow developers to continue fixing bugs in their non-sandboxed Mac App Store offerings.

We hope you’ll get on well with this update – it may not be a revolutionary leap forward, but it ought to improve your TypeIt4Me experience, nonetheless. As always, we welcome customer feedback. If you run into any further performance issues, please let us know about them so we can sort them out for you.

TypeIt4Me 5.3.1 now available in Mac App Store 29/07/2012 3 Comments

After 16 days waiting for review, TypeIt4Me 5.3.1 is finally available in the Mac App Store.
Remember that the *only* extra feature in 5.3.x vs 5.2.x is iCloud support, which can *only* be offered in apps sold in the Mac App Store (Apple’s rules, not ours).

To celebrate the release and allow any of our long standing, loyal users to upgrade to 5.3.1 without paying full price again, we are going to drop the price on the Mac App Store to $4.99 for a limited time. That’s a whopping 75% off and is even cheaper than the $8.99 we normally charge for upgrades.

If you need/want iCloud support, which works great with the companion TypeIt4Me Touch app on iPhone and iPad, now is the time to head to the Mac App Store and grab a copy for yourself and perhaps a gift one (or two) for your friends.

Not long now, TypeIt4Me 5.3.1 is finally “In Review” 27/07/2012 No Comments

After 16 days “Waiting for review”, TypeIt4Me 5.3.1 – which fixes several bugs, including date/time expansion, Add a clipping and triggering abbs using TAB in Safari – is finally “In Review” and should therefore shortly become available in the Mac App Store.

Remember that if you are currently using TypeIt4Me 5.2.1 and do not need/want iCloud support, you can stay with 5.2.1 as 5.3.1 only adds iCloud support and no other features.

TypeIt4Me 5.3.1 fixes bugs, will soon be on the Mac App Store 12/07/2012 3 Comments

Users reported a bug that prevents dates from expanding in version 5.3 (the Mac App Store version released 9th July). We fixed this and two other bugs (related to Add a clipping and TAB triggering in Safari) yesterday and 5.3.1 is now “Waiting for review” in the App Store. Apologies for the inconvenience.

The 75% special offer in the Mac App Store ended on August 1. Thank you to all who purchased TypeIt4Me and made it climb high in the Mac App Store charts. The price has now reverted to the normal $19.99 both in the Mac App Store and directly from http://ettoresoftware.com

Special offer: 75% off TypeIt4Me in the Mac App Store. 16/07/2011 No Comments

Hear ye, hear ye! Calling all Mac fans and text expansion enthusiasts. For a limited time only, you can take advantage of a Mac App Store exclusive offer and buy TypeIt4Me for the downright silly price of just $4.99 (USD). There’s no need to rub your eyes, you read that right. $4.99 in US dollars. That’s £2.99 for those of you in the UK and 3.99€ for eurozone dwellers. We’ve gone soft in the head with Lion mania and to celebrate the imminent launch of Apple’s latest big cat operating system – Mac OS X 10.7 – we’ve temporarily slashed the price of TypeIt4Me in the Mac App Store by 75%. This special offer will end on August 1st. If you act fast, you can grab yourselves a stonking great bargain.

Even those of you who have already purchased a TypeIt4Me licence from us directly in the past might wish to consider grabbing it from the Mac App Store* now while it’s as cheap as chips. Doing so would entitle you to free updates for all future TypeIt4Me 5.x versions, meaning you could avoid stumping up the standard $8.99 fee for upgrades that will otherwise come into effect 18 months from your initial purchase. Food for thought, no? Why not spread the word and let your friends get a slice of the action, too. …Mmmmmmm, tasty, tasty TypeIt4Me.

* Note that before buying it from the Mac App Store, you will need to quit your existing copy of TypeIt4Me and move it from your Applications folder to the Trash. Don’t worry, your existing clippings and settings will be preserved. After purchasing TypeIt4Me from the Mac App Store, simply double-click your clippings file (usually stored in Home or Documents folder and ending in .typeit4me).

SpeakMyTunes hits No. 1 in Italy 10/06/2011 No Comments

Screenshot of Italy's Mac App Store free Music downloads chartWe are happy to report that since we released version 2.0 of SpeakMyTunes yesterday, it has climbed all the way to the top of the Mac App Store’s free Music downloads chart in Italy. Not only is it occupying the number one spot in the Music category, but at the time of writing it’s also the seventh most popular free app overall. It’s great to see people enjoying SpeakMyTunes and giving us so much positive feedback. We will of course continue development and add further features in future. Grazie mille.

SpeakMyTunes 2.0 is out now. 09/06/2011 No Comments

Yep, we like to keep busy. Hot on the heels of version 1.0′s debut less than a month ago, it’s our pleasure to announce that SpeakMyTunes 2.0 is available for download now. You can grab it straight from our website or, if you prefer, from Apple’s Mac App Store.

It was just a bit of fun when we launched it, but SpeakMyTunes has proven to be quite a hit. In a few short weeks our freeware song announcer for iTunes has been downloaded by thousands of music lovers across the globe. We’d like to thank everyone for the overwhelmingly enthusiastic response: your positive feedback and suggestions just keep pouring in. As you might expect, we’re pretty jazzed that people are enjoying SpeakMyTunes and finding it useful. Encouraged by your kind words and great ideas, we’ve gone on to add some spiffy new features. This is what’s new in version 2.0:

  • You can now compose your own announcement, by combining and reordering any of the available song information tags with custom phrasing you type yourself.
  • There are four new song information elements: Genre, Composer, Year and Comments.
  • Pausing iTunes during SpeakMyTunes announcements is now optional.
  • We’ve added an independent volume control for voice announcements.
  • The application icon can be displayed in the dock only, in the menubar only, or in both.
  • SpeakMyTunes has been localised for French, Spanish and Italian users.

That’s it for the time being. We hope you’ll get a kick out of these improvements – we’ve certainly enjoyed the challenge of implementing your requested features. Anyway, have fun tweaking SpeakMyTunes to your hearts’ content and keep the feedback coming. We love to hear your thoughts. Toodle pip…à bientôt…adiós…and arrivederci!

TypeIt4Me is an Apple Staff Favourite. Now only $19.99. 04/02/2011 No Comments

Good news, everyone: in the wake of an unprecedented surge in sales of TypeIt4Me, we’ve reviewed our pricing model and decided to permanently lower prices across the board – with the cost of a standard single user licence dropping from $27 to just $19.99. We feel this’ll prove to be a sustainable price point and we want our customers to reap the benefits of TypeIt4Me’s strong performance in the new Mac App Store.

The recent launch of the Mac App Store has generated a fantastic buzz, opening up a world of opportunities for Mac users and developers alike. We’re tickled pink that TypeIt4Me – available since day one – has been featured in Apple’s Staff Favourites section in several countries for 3 weeks running now. It’s been enjoying phenomenal success in both the US and Europe and has been catapulted into the Top 10 of paid productivity apps in several territories worldwide.

It’s an absolute blast to see so many people discovering and enjoying our software – in many cases getting their first revelatory taste of just how much time and effort text expansion can save them. In the 22 years since we fired up version 1.0 of TypeIt4Me on an old black-and-white Macintosh SE/30 and brought it to market, we have never seen a rise in uptake quite like this. Not even after TextExpander, Typinator and others arrived on the scene and marshalled their considerable marketing resources to raise awareness of just how nifty typing utilities can be. The wave of enthusiasm with which our long-standing flagship product has been greeted by a new generation of Mac users is truly humbling. We’re not going to be breaking out the caviar and leafing idly through speedboat catalogues anytime soon, but this is certainly a most welcome turning point for us. We’re very grateful for the shot in the arm, Steve :)

…OK, it’s time to wrap this up before it gets too soppy and we ruin our make-up, but before we do we’d just like to extend our warmest thanks and appreciation to all our loyal customers – both early adopters and recent converts – for all the constructive feedback, encouragement and support. We hope TypeIt4Me has made your life that little bit easier and we look forward to improving your Mac experience further still over the years to come. Exciting times are afoot.

Cheers! *clink*

Can I transfer an existing TypeIt4Me licence to the Mac App Store version? 08/01/2011 No Comments

Apple has not yet provided a way for developers to transfer existing licences to the Mac App Store. Our intention, for now, is to continue publishing TypeIt4Me both directly via our website and via the Mac App Store.

The only difference between the two versions is that one handles registrations and updates via Sparkle, while Apple handles those things for us in the Mac App Store version.

The version 5.0.5(30) update became available through our website six days before appearing on the Mac App Store.

Welcome, Mac App Store. 06/01/2011 No Comments

A few hours from now, the new Mac App Store will make its debut. After over two decades of being distributed via the shareware/demoware route, TypeIt4Me will now also be sold through an official Apple storefront. We can’t wait to see how it’s going to affect sales. Make sure to tell all your friends to check out the special introductory pricing.
