TypeIt4Me Touch 3.0 is now available. 12/07/2015 No Comments

Phew, it’s hot out there. Six months have sped by in a blur since we opened the gate and shooed TypeIt4Me 5.4 for Mac out into the wild. Today, we’re pleased to say that its wee iOS cousin TypeIt4Me Touch 3.0 has finally been released and is available for download on the App Store.

In addition to bug fixes and iOS 8 optimisation, this update offers a keyboard extension you can easily switch to in order to access and expand your TypeIt4Me abbreviations in any app.

The primary intended use of the iOS app itself remains the speedy composition and sharing of notes. As for the TypeIt4Me Touch keyboard extension: this is not designed to replace your default keyboard, but to complement it. Apple’s built in shortcut functionality and superb QuickType algorithms offer excellent predictive and corrective features for swiftly and accurately typing short words, names and phrases, so we didn’t set out to reinvent the wheel.

Our aim with TypeIt4Me Touch 3.0 is to provide you with a useful keyboard add-on that you can quickly switch to for dipping into your library of lengthy, multi-line or even multi-paragraph TypeIt4Me abbreviations when you need them.

Addresses. Boilerplate texts. Blocks of programming code, markup or CSS. Literary quotes. Scientific formulae. All these and a whole lot more can be right at your fingertips, ready to be entered into any app you’re using with just a couple of keystrokes. Best of all, if you store TypeIt4Me snippets created on your Mac in iCloud, you’ll be able to manage and sync these across all your devices.

Time for us to get back to the lab for now. We hope you enjoy the summer and that TypeIt4Me Touch will free up a little more time for you to spend in a sun lounger sipping a pina colada.

iCloud woes 09/03/2014 No Comments

Several customers have reported the sudden disappearance of snippet files stored in iCloud.

So far, we haven’t managed to reproduce this issue on our test devices so we don’t know what causes it, let alone how to fix it (should it indeed turn out to be a defect in our code).

Meanwhile, please make sure you keep a regular backup of your snippets file so you can easily restore it should it suddenly disappear.

See this FAQ item:

If you find a reproducible step-by-step set of actions that leads to your snippets file disappearing from iCloud, please do email support@ettoresoftware.com as we would really like to work with you to stop this from ever happening.

Thanks in advance for any help you may provide and apologies if our software has unwittingly caused you to lose data and time.

TypeIt4Me Touch 2.0 for iPhone and iPad now available. 11/05/2012 7 Comments

We promised you an announcement and by golly it’s a doozy. After months of gruelling work we’re super pleased to reveal that TypeIt4Me Touch 2.0 for iOS is finally available to download from the iTunes App Store. A nifty mobile companion to our flagship Mac product, we’ve rebuilt it from scratch to achieve better performance and integrated some very useful new features. This sprightly new incarnation of our text expander app – formerly known as TapIt4Me – is a free upgrade for everyone who bought version 1.0. Better still, we’re offering it as a universal app optimised for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad at no extra cost.

TypeIt4Me Touch for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad

For the uninitiated, TypeIt4Me Touch 2.0 is a text expansion app that enables you to speed up typing on your iDevice. It lets you use your own custom-defined shorthand abbreviations that will expand on the fly to longer words, phrases and snippets of boilerplate text as you continue typing. Swiftly compose a note with TypeIt4Me Touch and you can email, tweet or message it to someone directly from within the app. You can also save it for later or copy it to the clipboard to quickly paste into another app.

TypeIt4Me Touch is priced at a very reasonable $4.99 / £2.99 / 3.99€, so it’s not going to break the bank. Optimised for iOS 5.x and designed to play nicely with TypeIt4Me for Mac and OS X 10.7 Lion, it comes with some brand spanking new features, including:

  • iCloud support: use your TypeIt4Me abbreviations seamlessly across all your iDevices. iCloud support will be extended to the Mac version very soon, too.
  • Auto-suggestion: if you switch this on in the app’s settings, TypeIt4Me Touch will display suggested words and snippets above the keyboard that match the letters you’re typing. Tap on these and you can really speed things along.
  • A point-and-tap snippets menu: if you forget what abbreviation you assigned to a particular snippet while you’re composing a note, just press a button for a handy drop-down that lists all the snippets in your active set, scroll through it and tap on the one you want to insert into the note. Bam! There it is. (Due to screen size limitations, this is an iPad-only feature.)

Now that we’ve got the sales patter out of the way, please do head over to the App Store and check TypeIt4Me Touch out. We’re confident you’ll either love it, loathe it or have mixed feelings about the time-saving opportunities it opens up for you. For our part, we’re pretty stoked about it.

Well, that was the big news for today. It’s time for us to get back to work on the Mac version, but before we wrap this up, we’d just like to extend our grateful thanks and appreciation to the small army of dedicated volunteer beta testers who so dilligently found ways to break this app while it was in development. Their heroic efforts have helped us make TypeIt4Me Touch 2.0 a stronger, more robust animal. We hope it will make your life just that little bit easier. Enjoy.

Royal Wedding fever is upon us. 28/04/2011 No Comments

You may possibly have heard hushed whispers and noticed a few subtle indications that royal nuptials are afoot. Supposedly, some prince or other might be getting hitched at Westminster Abbey tomorrow. It could just be hearsay and we’re not sure we believe these vague rumours, but we’ve decided to enter into the spirit of things, regardless. Any excuse for a party: we love a good old-fashioned knees-up, we do.

As the world vigorously celebrates all things quaintly British and somewhat pointless, we’re delighted to inform you that we’ve spruced up our BigBen clock app, giving it a makeover for this most romantic occasion. For a limited time, you can download it to your iPhone for free. Why not whip it out during the ceremony and wipe away a tear as you salute the monarchy and listen to our cherished London icon belt out its famous Westminster Chimes? Ding Dong!

BigBen 2.0 now in the iTunes App Store 23/04/2011 No Comments

It’s been a long time coming, but we’ve finally updated BigBen with some hi-res photos and professionally recorded chimes.

It now plays every quarter and correctly starts the chime on the hour, to end in time for the first bong to play as the clock strikes the hour.

Check it out here and tell all your friends.

This just in… 18/06/2010 No Comments

Hello, hello. We just wanted to give you all a brief update to let you know what we’re currently up to here at Ettore Towers. Understandably, some of you may have interpreted our recent quietness as a bit of a lull in development activity; rest assured, however, that this couldn’t be further from the truth. The hamster never stops spinning in its wheel round these parts – our cosy little office has been buzzing with frenzied activity. So here’s the skinny:

  • We’re continuing to refine our much cherished, long-standing flagship product TypeIt4Me – like good wine, it just gets better with age – and there are some new features in the pipeline.
  • We have a nice surprise up our sleeve for Italian would-be TypeIt4Me customers. Stay tuned…
  • We’ve been throwing around some ideas for a couple of nifty new iPhone apps that we think you’ll really like. Such things take time to develop properly though, so we hope you’ll bear with us. Without wanting to lay the corny platitudes on too thick: good apps come to those who wait. These puppies will be more sophisticated than our initial forays into app creation.
  • …Speaking of Xylophone et al, we didn’t sleep through uncle Steve’s presentation last week, either: you can expect some updates to our existing suite of apps, as soon as we have a spare pair of hands to deal with them. Mmmmm, retina display.
